Selling isn’t convincing anyone of anything. It’s simply guiding the buyer to whatever solution is a best fit for them. Not for you.
Kill the Pitch is a book by Ivy Malik for creative professionals and freelancers who are good at their work and uncomfortable selling it. It teaches Co-Creative Selling: a way of having a sales conversation that starts with understanding the buyer rather than pitching yourself.
Who Kill the Pitch is for?
Kill the Pitch is written for designers, photographers, strategists, consultants and agency owners who win work whether through organic reach or referrals and dread the conversation that turns a lead into a client.
It’s for people who are good at what they do, whose clients tell them so, and who have never found a way to sell that makes them feel OK.
It is not a book about closing techniques. It teaches the art of good conversations through selling. The close just naturally happens as a result.
What is Co-Creative Selling?
Co-Creative Selling is Ivy Malik’s sales methodology. Its core principle is that every high-value sale is co-created and no sale happens in a vacuum. The solution worth buying is one that gets designed in the conversation rather than enforced.
The logic is simple. You cannot create something that genuinely serves a buyer until you understand what they actually need. So the work of selling is not persuasion, it’s understanding, then co-creating a solution.
Good conversation with trust established before the price is discussed results in two parties forming a partnership rather than one party convincing the other.
The method was developed by Ivy Malik who has over nineteen years in business — ten of them within hospitality and nine coaching creative professionals — and has her MA(H) in Psychology.
There are scripts in the book, a bank of question and a full sales call walked through with an analysis.
Take the words without the thinking underneath and you’re someone on a call reciting lines. This is what causes distrust in the buyer and that’s the outdated version of selling.
